Dr. Gary Rodwell, CEO
Dr. Gary Rodwell serves as CEO of American Communities Trust (ACT), where he is leading the redevelopment of the historic Baltimore Pumphouse into a catalytic hub for nonprofit services and small business development.
He also serves as Chief Executive Officer of Coppin Heights Community Development Corporation (CHCDC), overseeing strategic planning, executive operations, and leadership development initiatives. Under his leadership, CHCDC has advanced its mission of strengthening the Coppin Heights and Greater Rosemont communities, leveraging more than $100 million in real estate development resources. Notable projects include the award-winning restoration of the 1873 Hebrew Orphans Asylum into the Center for Healthcare and Healthy Living, as well as the development of Walbrook Mill Apartments, a 65-unit affordable housing community.
Dr. Rodwell is widely recognized for his work in community development, coalition building, and advancing systemic reform. He has a strong track record of shaping and implementing policies that support equitable growth and improve quality of life in urban neighborhoods.
A dedicated servant leader, Dr. Rodwell, has long been engaged in civic and community service across Baltimore. He currently serves on the Baltimore City Commission for Historical and Architectural Preservation and has previously served as Vice President of the Maryland American Civil Liberties Union and as a member of the Maryland Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
Dr. Rodwell has also contributed to higher education as a member of Morgan State University’s doctoral faculty and as Past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Baltimore City Community College.
